Flores Musicae – Medieval and Renaissance Music Festival

In 2017, after six editions, the former festival entitled Days of Early Music, which succeeded the Court Music series, underwent a transformation and a revival. The festival, which takes place in Nova Gorica and in Goriška Brda, has been renamed to Flores Musicae, and Medieval music has been added to the existing Renaissance repertoire. Flores Musicae festival is the only ancient music festival in the western part of Slovenia and the only festival dedicated to medieval and Renaissance music in Slovenia.

BAILLY, BAKER, LÓPEZ (France, England, Spain)
AMOUR COURTOIS ° MEDIEVAL JAZZ

  • Baptiste Bailly – piano and arrangements
  • Matthew Baker – viola da gamba
  • Efrén López – oud and hurdy-gurdy

The international trio, formed at the initiative of young French jazz pianist Baptiste Bailly, has delivered one of the year's most refreshing musical surprises. Their album Amour Courtois, released this year, is widely regarded as one of the most successful fusions of medieval music and jazz.

Joined by renowned Spanish multi-instrumentalist Efrén López and English virtuoso Matthew Baker, who performs on the remarkable baritone viola da gamba (a viola da gamba with additional sympathetic strings), the trio explores a repertoire from the 14th and 15th centuries, reimagining it with originality and depth. Far removed from superficial crossover experiments, their project has received widespread critical acclaim, won several awards, and became one of the most frequently played albums on the French radio station FIP.

The festival is organised in collaboration with DRAMSAM – Centro Giuliano di Musica Antica, with the financial support of the Municipality of Nova Gorica and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia.
