The Prečkanja – Sconfinamenti Festival

The Prečkanja – Sconfinamenti Festival is the result of cross-border collaboration between the Glasbena matica of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the Imago Sloveniae Foundation – Image of Slovenia, and the renowned piano virtuoso Alexander Gadjiev, who conceived the project and serves as its artistic director.
The festival’s program focuses on top-tier classical music concerts, highlighting young “rising stars” from around the world. It also features artist residencies and masterclasses led by distinguished teachers.
Following the great success of last year’s inaugural edition, the festival will take place this year from 23 June to 6 July 2025, across several venues between the Gorizia cross-border region and Ljubljana.

Rafael Lipstein – A Piano Virtuoso Who Inspires the World
Rafael Lipstein, a German-Argentinian pianist, captivates audiences worldwide with his technical mastery, emotional depth, and unique musical expression. His extraordinary talent has been praised by none other than the legendary Martha Argerich, who said: “Lipstein’s piano simply sings.”
He has performed in some of the world’s most prestigious concert halls, including the Oriental Art Center in Shanghai, the Cologne Philharmonie, and the Herkulessaal in Munich. Critics have dubbed him the “prince of pianists” (Beijing), praising his “virtuosity and charisma” (Die Welt).
Lipstein began his musical journey on the violin before switching to piano at the age of eleven, studying under his father, Leopold Lipstein. He continued his education with renowned professor Pavel Gililov and refined his skills with acclaimed pianists like Gabriela Montero and Martha Argerich.
A hallmark of his artistry is his extensive repertoire for the left hand alone, which he regularly performs and expands by commissioning new works. His innovation and artistry bring fresh dimensions to piano performance.
With over 25 national and international awards and an active career as both soloist and chamber musician – often performing with his brother, cellist Manuel Lipstein – Rafael Lipstein stands among the most promising pianists of his generation.
The Prečkanja – Sconfinamenti Festival is funded by the European Union through the GO! 2025 Small Projects Fund of the Interreg VI-A Italy–Slovenia 2021–2027 programme, managed by the EGTC GO.
Free tickets, generously offered by Večer, GenLan and Primorske novice, can be collected at the venue during the last hour before the event starts.
