Church in Vrhovlje pri Kožbani

The village Kojsko prides itself on the oldest winged altar, whereas the Church of Saint Andrew in Vrhovlje prides itself on the oldest frescoes in the Brda region. They are found on the walls of presbytery.

Among other motives, scenes from the life of the Holy Family can be observed, as well as scenes of other saints and apostles. The images of angels with various instruments belonging to the second half of the 15th century are a special attraction.

The church is situated at the top of the hill and is of the so called Primorska type – the roofed space in front of the entrance, which used to be covered with stone plates ( called škrle in the Primorska dialect ), and the bell tower with the spindle, are typical of these churches.
